Instagram and Facebook ads targeting lower ranked countries

Hi all,

I tried to search for information on this and it was surprisingly hard to find. I was wondering what you all thought on targeting lower ranked countries with instagram/Facebook ads to boost follower numbers?

To give a bit of background, a few weeks ago I launched a clothing brand and the account has been growly slowly but steadily. I have been following all the tips, such as posting good content 3 times per day, hash-tag research and using Gary Vee's $1.80 strategy etc...

I also run ads daily which leads me to my initial question. If I target USA or UK and add my niche interests my estimated reach for a $3 ad is around 600 - 1800. However for the same price by targeting India and Pakistan my estimated reach is 26,000 - 66,000.

Now, don't get me wrong, I know the draw backs of this that it could skew lookalike audiences down the line, and that these people who may end up as followers will never be customers - but is that such a bad thing?

What I am wondering is whether or not it is worth it to gain a bit of social proof with some increase in followers (which are not bots bought from sketchy sites) but are as a result of using instagram/Facebook's paid services.

My hope would be that if I were to add a few hundred followers via this method that potential future customers will be more likely to follow my account when they see I have more people already following. I was also hopeful that these followers from the ads would boost engagement on my post, thus expand my reach through instagrams algorithm.

Curious to know what you all think about this?
