How do you make a budget and anticipate costs?

Admittedly I consider myself a writer first, and social media strategist second. I previously worked for 1.5 years at a decent sized cosmetics company as their social media coordinator/copywriter... but I mostly did creative work and never had to deal with budget, paid social, etc. We also had in-house photographers, videographers, and MUAs... so I didn't have to anticipate content costs.

However, I'm currently making a social media plan as a content consultant for a new beauty startup and I'm admittedly a little overwhelmed and lost. They've asked me to create a budget for content needs, anticipate monthly ad spend, set goals and KPIs, etc. I've told them that I don't have much experience in this area, but it's kind of fallen on deaf ears. I've tried googling and asking my friends but thought I'd come here for a little guidance. They have a pretty big budget for paid social ($10k monthly) but I'm totally clueless on how often to boost posts, and how much money to put in... and also how to anticipate costs for monthly content, such as videos and influencer collabs. Does anybody have any guidance?
