How to get locked out of your own Facebook account forever

Hi, I would like to share with you my little story, on one hand, to just do some catharsis and on the other hand to give you a heads-up in case it can prevent this from happening to you.

So here it goes:

1. I don't use Facebook very much since a couple of years ago, only at work to manage several international Facebook Manager accounts. So I don't have the app installed, and I am not logged in on any device. At work, I usually log in in an incognito tab

2. At some point around December, Facebook forced me to activate 2-factor authentication to be able to get into the Facebook Manager accounts. As I often travel internationally for work, I preferred not to use SMS. Instead, I did it via Google authenticator

3. This setup is done from the Facebook account, i.e. logged in

4. I had around 10 days off during Christmas break. During that time, my old phone died and I got a new one

5. In January, when I got back to work, I went to log in from my laptop at the office. The password was ok, but I was asked for the code sent to my phone as the second factor

6. You guessed it! The code was sent to the old, dead and inaccessible phone. I have no way of "migrating" the link between that Google authenticator and my account. And I cannot set it up to the new phone if I'm not logged in to my account

7. I tried every option offered by FB to recover access. All of them require either the second factor code I cannot get, or being already logged in on a device

8. I contacted my company's Facebook account representative to see if they could help. First, they sent me to the standard help, stating that there was a chat where I could get direct help from Facebook support. It turns out that the chat only works for logged users!!

9. Afterwards, they created a ticket to local support, but they had no solution, so they said they created an engineering support ticket directly at the team in Silicon Valley. Of course, it seems a functionality thing, so I really doubt these guys are going to recode this functionality to solve my problem

10. I have nowhere else to go or nothing else to try. I'm officially logged out of my own Facebook account without possibility of getting to my clients' Facebook Managers

And one extra: I thought about forgetting about my personal account and just creating a new one, requesting all accesses again and so on. The funny guys at Facebook recommended against it, saying that if I was caught having more than one account for the same human being, the could block both accounts. Bravo!

Anyways, I think my only solution is to ignore that last recommendation and just create a new account. 😒

Be very cautious about that two factor authentication sh*t.
