Create Facebook Account Without Phone Number

Hello,

I'm unable to post to the Facebook category for some reason, the Post button is greyed out.

Is there a way to create a Facebook account without having to give your phone number?

It says you can choose between e-mail and phone number, but when I enter an e-mail address, it then says "there has been suspicious activity on this account" (before I've ever even used it) and requires me to do a phone verification before it will let me log in.

Facebook said phone numbers for 2 factor authentication were only used for security purposes, then they sold them to advertisers and made accounts searchable by phone number, whether it was set to private or not.

The head of security at Facebook issued a statement that said, "we use them for security, but of course we're going to provide them to our advertisers."
