Social media gurus who follow tens of thousands users?

Hey guys,

What do you think about some of these social media gurus who have social media accounts with many many followers but they also follow crazy number of people? Especially on Twitter, for example Neil Patel, or even brands like SEMrush?

It is clearly not because they want to be up to date with those users :D Is it okay or BS strategy to gaining many followers?
